Another Mac convert
Martin McKeay mentioned on his Network Security Blog that he’s taking the plunge into a MacBook Pro. Kudos to Martin.
A friend of mine once said that Mac will slowly take over Microsoft, but it will be a grass-roots movement and I think he’s dead-on. I made the switch after loosing a dumb bar bet and never looked back. I have since converted two coworkers (okay, so one uses Windows in Parallels more than Mac OS, but he’s halfway there).
The security community has whole-heartedly embraced Mac because OS X is built on Darwin, a BSD variant. This gives us access to a boat load of open-source software that the community has been built on (Snort, Nessus, Wireshark, NMAP, ethereal, ettercap, the list goes on).
Not to mention the fact that the Mac really does run a solid OS. I’ve had three Macs (one was stolen from my car) in five years and I’ve had exactly two kernel panics, both of which I photographed (yeah, I’m a geek). I doubt PC users can count the number of blue screens they’ve had in five years!
